Jordan – 10 Jordanians Die in Egypt’s Sinai

Al-Taj News – Jordanian and Egyptian sources confirmed on Wednesday the deaths of 10 Jordanians after a passenger bus overturned on the Dahab–Nuweiba road in Egypt’s South Sinai Governorate. The bus was carrying 43 people, including 22 Jordanians.

The sources said the bus was traveling from Cairo to Amman via Sinai and Nuweiba, then across the Red Sea to Aqaba, before continuing its journey to Amman.

The accident occurred Wednesday morning on the Dahab–Nuweiba road, before the Al-Saada area toward the city of Nuweiba and in front of the Al-Mazina village, according to Egypt’s South Sinai Governorate.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced that the initial toll of the accident showed that 16 people had died at the scene and 28 others had been injured and transported to hospitals to receive the necessary medical care.

Egyptian Ministry of Health spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the central operations room was activated immediately upon receiving the report, while 20 ambulances were dispatched to the accident site to evacuate the injured and provide them with first aid.

He added that medical teams are continuously monitoring the health conditions of the injured, while Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar directed that the highest levels of medical care be provided to them, along with the necessary supplies and medications, and coordination with the relevant authorities in South Sinai Governorate.

South Sinai Governorate said that ambulance operations were reinforced with four additional vehicles, two from Suez Governorate and two from North Sinai, in addition to using another ambulance to assist in transporting the injured.

The governorate explained that the state of readiness had been raised at hospitals in Nuweiba, Taba, Dahab, Saint Catherine, and Sharm El-Sheikh, while developments in the accident continue to be monitored through the Operations and Crisis Management Center, in coordination with the central operations room at the Ministry of Health.
